Rare Vintage LFZ Lomonosov Porcelain Figurine, 'Yakut Girl with Fish', USSR, c. 1950-60
A rare and exceptionally fine porcelain figurine, 'Yakut Girl with a Fish', produced by the prestigious Lomonosov Porcelain Factory (LFZ) in Leningrad (St. Petersburg) during the 1950s-1960s. This is a highly sought-after piece for collectors of Soviet-era porcelain and is the companion to the 'Yakut Boy with Dog' figurine.
This model is of such cultural and artistic importance that an identical example is held in the permanent collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. The V&A credits the design to the sculptor Serafima Borisovna Velikhova, one of the leading artists at the factory.
The figurine depicts a young Yakut girl from Eastern Siberia, dressed in traditional winter clothing with a fur-trimmed hood and decorated with distinctive geometric patterns. She is shown kneeling and holding a large sturgeon, a fish native to the region. The hand-painting is exquisite, and the base is finished with a gold band.
