FAQs

We’re here to help. Below are some of the most common questions about our process, our pieces, and what makes Bonita Eloise so special. If you still have a question after reading, don’t hesitate to get in touch. We love hearing from thoughtful souls.

1. What makes Bonita Eloise products so unique?

Every Bonita Eloise piece begins with a journey. We personally source each item from auctions, charity shops, and the overlooked corners of markets and we select only those that feel like they still have something to say.

Once found, each piece is lovingly cleaned, prepared, and where needed, drilled or assembled by hand. This can be tough, physical work but we do it with heart. These aren't mass-produced items. They're stories, reimagined.

You may receive one piece from a small collection such as a batch of six planters and while it will be part of that set, it may not be the exact one in the photograph. We work in small batches with limited finds. Once a set is gone, it’s unlikely to return unless we’re fortunate enough to come across similar pieces again at a sustainable price.

2. Are your planters suitable for outdoor use?

Most of our ceramics are vintage, delicate, and likely not frost-proof. We recommend using them in sheltered spots, indoors, or simply as decorative accents during colder months. They’re charming in windowsills, porches, greenhouses, or tucked lovingly into curated corners.

3. Do the planters come with plants?

No, our planters are sold without plants. We often style them with greenery in photos to help you picture how they might look in your space, but the plants shown are for decorative purposes only. They’re not included and may not be the best match for every pot.

We recommend using small succulents, mini trailing plants, or anything that suits the size and shape of your piece. As always, it’s worth doing a little research to make sure your chosen plant feels at home in its new pot.

4. Why do some items have marks, chips, or wear?

Because they’ve lived a life before this one. We intentionally work with pre-loved or damaged pieces to avoid contributing to unnecessary waste. Auction stamps, pottery marks, small chips, or fine lines are all part of the item’s story.

We clean and prepare every piece with care, but we don’t erase the past. We believe in preserving character over perfection.

5. Are your items sustainable?

We do our best to keep things simple and sensible. At Bonita Eloise, we work with what already exists. Materials that would otherwise be discarded or forgotten. By repurposing vintage items instead of buying new, we reduce the need for further production and help keep waste out of landfill.

We also package every order using materials that are as recyclable and compostable as possible, even though they cost more. It’s important to us that the beauty of our products carries through to how they arrive at your door.

No process is perfect. But we believe that making thoughtful, small-scale choices adds up to something meaningful. It’s not about shouting sustainability. It’s about living it quietly, intentionally, and with care.

6. What if I don’t agree with repurposing vintage items?

That’s okay. Our pieces aren’t for everyone. We completely respect collectors who prefer items be left untouched. But Bonita Eloise is about reimagining, not destroying. Many of the pieces we work with are already damaged or unloved. We simply give them a second life.

If that doesn’t align with your values, that’s alright. We believe everyone should choose what feels right for them and for their home.

7. Are your items made to last?

Yes, but with respect for their age. Each item is checked for quality and strength before it’s sent to you. Still, these are vintage pieces, often ceramic or glass, and they need a little care. They’re made for gentle homes and thoughtful spaces.

8. Do you accept returns?

Yes, we do. We want you to feel good about your purchase. If your item arrives and you truly don’t love it, you’re welcome to return it within 30 days in its original condition. You can read our full refund policy here.

We do ask that you remember these items come with imperfections. They’re part of the charm, and by purchasing, you’re accepting the story each piece carries.

9. Will you restock sold-out pieces?

Usually not. Once a set is gone, it’s gone unless we’re lucky enough to find a similar piece again at a sustainable price. That’s what makes each item so special. If something speaks to you, we always recommend signing up to the newsletter and claiming it while you can.

10. Will you offer more than planters and feeders?

Yes. From time to time, a piece might want to become something else. A sculpture. A centrepiece. A decorative object. If that’s how it speaks to us, we follow it. Everything we create starts with the item and the feeling it evokes.

11. How do I care for my Bonita Eloise item?

A soft cloth, kind hands, and a little awareness are all they really need. These pieces may be strong, but they’ve lived a life before this one and still appreciate a bit of care.

If your piece is being used as a planter, we recommend checking it regularly to make sure it’s draining well and hasn’t collected standing water. While many of our planters include a drainage hole, vintage china isn’t frost-proof and should be kept sheltered during extreme weather.

If it’s a bird feeder, place it somewhere safe and stable, ideally under cover such as, a tree. Keep an eye on it over time to make sure it’s not collecting too much rain or debris, and that the birds are using it happily.

If your piece lives outside, bring it in during heavy rain or frost. Extreme weather can damage delicate materials like vintage china. A little care goes a long way in keeping it beautiful for years to come.

12. Do you ship internationally?

We currently ship within the UK and to a few international destinations subject to shipping availability. If you're outside of the UK, feel free to reach out and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.

13. Can I send one as a gift?

Absolutely. These make beautiful, meaningful gifts. We’re happy to include a handwritten message. Just leave a note when you check out.

14. Where can I find Bonita Eloise pieces?

We only sell online through our website. This helps us stay small, intentional, and close to our community.

15. Do you offer custom orders?

Not right now, but we’re always open to special ideas. If you’re after something specific or sentimental, feel free to get in touch. If it feels right, we’ll let you know.
